The Luft IV Memorial Committee has an ongoing project to construct a display of bricks on the premises of the former POW camp site in memory of those prisoners interned at Stalag Luft IV. The idea was born upon my return from a visit to the Stalag Luft IV Memorials and Museum. I had witnessed the heartwarming efforts of the Polish Community in keeping the memory of this historic event alive and asked Joe O'Donnell, author of the series of "The Shoe Leather Express" books, if he had an idea of how we could give back to these kind people. Joe's excellent suggestion became "The Luft IV Memorial Pathway" project. Leonard "Rosie" Rose had been enthusiastic when advised of the venture and planned to include information regarding the brick walkway in his Newsletter prior to his sad passing. George Guderley has expressed his support of and input into this important undertaking.
Whether you purchase a brick for yourself, as a gift, or as a memorial to a loved one, this is a unique way to contribute to the Polish Community and deservedly be recognized or have your loved one recognized at the same time by leaving a perpetual legacy in this pathway of history.
The Luft IV Committee is selling 13" x 10" granite bricks with Name, Rank and POW number etched in 1 ½" letters for $115.00 per brick to be added to a slightly diagonal pathway design.
